Isabell A. Chagerben, age 101, New London, went straight to Heaven on Angels Wings, Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Izzy was born on Friday, December 13, 1918 to the late Joseph and Theresa (Altman) Schuetz (very near) Wheeling, West Virginia. She grew up on a farm in the foothills of Appalachia, graduated from West Liberty High School, West Liberty, West Virginia in 1937, and from Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. Izzy worked at Lakewood City Hospital, Lakewood Ohio (Cleveland, OH) as Charge Nurse in Obstetrics in 1941. Thru the war years, Izzy said, “My brothers fought the war and I delivered the war babies.” She said the worst was when a newly delivered mother was given news that their husband had been killed, “If only we could have let her sleep one more night.” In December 1948, she married Dr. Badih Chagerben at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Lakewood, Ohio. They were married 65 years, until the time of his death (Christmas Day 2004). They had two sons, John Gerard and James Edward Chagerben.

Isabell is survived by Jim’s daughters, her very devoted granddaughters, Tiffany Nicole Rodriguez (Tony: great-granddaughters, Olivia and Emma) and Katrina Danielle Chagerben; daughter-in-law Josie Chagerben; a brotherJerry (Marge) Schuetz, a sister-in-law Helen, and many equally devoted nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by husband Badih; sons, John and Jim; siblings: Bernard (Alice), Mary Agnes (Charles) Hollingshead, Helen (John) Askew, Bill (Anne), and Roy.

As with every life, she faced many trials and tribulations, but always with grace, humility, forgiveness and best of all a great sense of humor. All of us, her family members spread across the country, have been so very fortunate and blessed to have had Izzy in our lives!

Private family services will be held. The Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London is serving the family. www.clinehansonfuneralhome.com

Heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Trinity Terrace, Sharen Fredricks, Mgr, Gwin Radtke, RN, and all the wonderful residents’ assistants. Thanks also to Heartland Hospice.
