Mark John Strebe, 61 of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 after a short bout with cancer.
Mark was born on July 16, 1961; son of the late Vilas “Pat” and Marilyn (Penney) Strebe. He graduated from Amherst High School and then started his 39 year career at Waupaca Foundr
Mark was known as “Uncle Moose” or “Uncle Moo” to everyone around – from family members, to friends of friends, to co-workers, to people he may have just met. In fact, several people didn’t even know him as Mark. While he came across as a grumpy old guy, he really did have a huge heart and considered everyone he met his family; a family he would do anything for. As Uncle Moose, he loved spending time camping and boating with friends and family alike. He loved “cracking the whip” with the kids on the tubes behind the boat, laughing just as loud as they were!
Mark loved being part of the Floistad-Strebe racing crew in the early 2000’s. While he wasn’t the most mechanically inclined member of the pit crew, he was definitely one of the most dedicated. He was proud to be the guy filling the gas cans or doing whatever was asked of him.
Watching Green Bay Packers or Nascar was Mark’s favorite way to spend a Sunday. And, in true Packer fan fashion, whether they were doing well or not, the neighbors down the road could hear what was going on during the game, even without having their TV on!
Mark is survived by and will be dearly missed by his brother, Mick (Karen) Wennesberg; niece, Heather (Cody) Sharpless and nephew, Chris Wennesberg; as well as his great nieces and nephew. He is also survived by his extended Floistad family – Tracy (Wendy), Jeremy, Shane, Kyle and their families. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and step-brother, Armon (Butch) Anderson.
Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until time of services at Jungers-Holly Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Spring at Lower Amherst Cemetery. Online condolences available at www.hollyfuneralhome.com
