William J. “Bill” Schroeder, age 78, of Chilton, died on November 28, 2023, at Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Appleton.

He was born August 20, 1945, in Waupaca, WI, son of the late Gordon “Bus” and Lenore “Speed” Schroeder. On October 2, 2004, he married Janet “Jan” Schabach.

Bill lived his life honorably, always believing and doing what was right. Included in this character he held his family above everything else in the world, never missing a sporting event, concert, reunion, or birthday party. Bill’s love of animals awarded a caring home to many dogs and even a couple of horses. Through the years he enjoyed taking rides on his motorcycle and traveling with Jan, going as far as Ireland and Italy. Closer to home, he had an enthusiasm for storytelling as an avid reader and movie goer. Taking part in thousands of cribbage games or doing a word jumble in the newspaper kept his mind sharp to the end. Above the love he had for family and friends, Bill’s pride and joy was his red 2007 Ford GT500 Shelby Cobra Mustang convertible.

Bill is survived by his wife, Janet; his children: Bill (Jane) Schroeder, Melissa (Scott) McConnell, Jeffrey (Alicia) Schroeder, and Laura (Christopher) Schneider; step-children: Michelle (Craig) Piepenburg, Jeremy (Aimee) Hostettler, and Ellen (Joe) Petrie; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings: Miralee (Wayne) Much, Kevin (Nancy) Schroeder, and Kim (Mary) Schroeder; and a sister-in-law: Joyce Diedrich.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lenore; and a brother-in-law: Jerry Diedrich.

A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton, with Pastor Mark Peterson officiating. The family invites everyone to join them for a social hour from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the funeral home on the day of service. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available for those wishing to watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family on their website page provided through wietingfuneralhome.com
