Edna Vetter, of Waupaca WI passed away at home on January 20th, 2024, at the age of 93.
Edna was born in 1930 in (Wembley), England where she grew up with her loving parents and five siblings. She shared many stories of growing up in wartime England, including time spent in bomb shelters and blackout curtains.
After graduating from secondary school, Edna studied to become a seamstress and pattern maker. She eventually worked for several prestigious design houses in London. In the early 1950’s Edna left England and joined her sister in the United States. Shortly after arriving in the United States, she contracted polio, once recovered she was unable to return home to England due to travel restrictions and took a job with Dayton’s Department Store.
It is there where she met the young Richard Vetter while helping him purchase Christmas gifts for his family. They fell in love and were married in September of 1956 and settled in Stevens Point, WI, where they raised five daughters: Lisa, Anne, Mary, Jody, and Penny. Edna was a devoted wife and loving mother who dedicated her time and talents to her children’s many activities. This included leading a Girl Scout Troop and sewing costumes for dance recitals. Edna and Richard enjoyed playing bridge, being members of the local dance club, curling club, traveling, and spending summers in Waupaca.
Edna eventually moved to Waupaca full-time where she was an avid gardener, a volunteer at the Waupaca County Humane Society and Hospital Auxiliary. She was a hub of information regarding her daughters, their husbands, her nine amazing grandchildren, and her twelve great-grandchildren.
Edna touched many lives, but her deepest pride was her role as a wife, parent, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will always live on in the hearts of her family.
Edna is survived by her children, Lisa Falk, Anne (Dominic) Truniger, Mary (Gary) Wade, Josephine Vetter (Neil Bibbins) and Penny (Don) Moran; and her grandchildren, Erik (Becky) Falk, Adam (Miranda) Falk, Peter (Amy) Falk, Claire (Alex) Patterson, Nicole (Kaleb) Engelke, Madalyn (Kyle) Hunt, Drew Wade (Kelsey Jarrett), Ellen Moran (Alex Amoss) and Oliva Moran (Conner Welch); and her 12 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews in the US and England.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; her siblings and son-in-law, Jerry Falk.
A celebration of life will be held later this Spring (date to be determined). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Waupaca County Humane Society. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
