Dennis W. Gibbs, age 59, of Waupaca, WI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at his home in Waupaca, WI.

He was born April 16, 1960 in Patuxent River, Maryland, son of Donald and Marianne (Verdon) Gibbs. Denny graduated in 1978 from Waupaca High School. Most of his working years you could find Denny making pizzas for the Wheelhouse Restaurant, The Filling Station, and most recently for Festive Foods in Waupaca. Denny had a passion for photography and took classes at Fox Valley Tech to enhance his skills. He loved the outdoors and that is where he took his photo inspiration from. Denny could see the beauty in nature that most people ignored. He had such a big heart, a creative eye for photography, a smile that greeted everyone he met with friendship. Now it’s his turn to fly with the eagles, high to the heavens, pound on the clouds to make thunder and lightning, be peaceful and quiet with the bears and the wood ducks, sit gently with the dragonflies, grow wild with the mushrooms, and ride the wind with the freight trains. We lost a gentle soul that his family will always miss.

Denny is survived by his six siblings: Randy (Lynette) Gibbs of Porterfield, WI; Jeff Gibbs of Weyauwega, WI; Brion Gibbs of Fremont, WI; Sue Davidson of Tucson, AZ; Michelle Roggenbauer of Waupaca, WI, and Bruce Gibbs of Rosholt, WI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marianne Gibbs.

A Graveside Service will be on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Sheridan Village Cemetery in Waupaca followed by a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Denny’s life at the Crystal Lounge, 1332 Churchill Street, Waupaca. Our Loving Mom, Lucille Marie Radtke (Huebner) of Embarrass, passed away on Sept. 8, 2020 after a short illness at the age of 94.

She was born on December 30, 1925 to Theodore and Amanda (Schultz) Huebner in Shawano, Wisconsin. She was the second oldest daughter of four daughters in the family. She grew up in Shawano where she attended St. James Elementary School and graduated from Shawano High School in 1943. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Church. After high school she probably met Gordon at a baseball game in Zachow. They were married in Shawano and moved to a farm in the Zachow area. Mom became a country girl then and learned to help on the farm along with raising their two daughters. After farming for a few years, they decided to try their hands at selling groceries instead of growing them. They purchased the Embarrass Food Market in Embarrass and continued the business for several years. The Post Office in Embarrass was attached to the grocery store so when the Post Master position became available Mom took the opportunity to step in those shoes. She proudly served in this position until her retirement in 1985. The two occupations kept them very busy often working long hours at the store. Mom and Dad enjoyed spending time with the “Cronies” of Embarrass. They enjoyed each others company and shared trips, family weddings, births and accomplishments with them. Mom and Dad also had to share in the loss of those dear friends over the years. They both also enjoyed their summer cottage at Clover Leaf Lakes. Mom loved her card club which she belonged to for several years. She also enjoyed driving her lady friends to work at The Bethesda Home in Green Bay. Mom was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. She served as their Church Treasurer and sang in the choir. Mother loved her family and prayed often for them. She shared in their special events, accomplishments and encouraged them to pursue their dreams and was very proud of all the grandchildren and the greats too. Lucille’s last two years were spent at Aster Assisting Living in Clintonville. We wish to sincerely thank the Aster staff for their support and loving care which was provided during her stay there. We wait now until the day our entire family will again be reunited in Heaven. May God grant all her family and friends His unending peace.

Lucille will be missed by her daughters: Sue and Don Haws and Peggy and Wayne Rindt; granddaughters: Wendy (Lance) Haddock, Jodi (Jeff) Sincoular, Kelli (friend Jeff Asman) Rindt; great-grandchildren: Rebekah (Seth) Minnis, Hatley Laughridge, Alex Laughridge, Kallie (Devon) Flores, Danielle Haws, Amanda (Jes) Brissette, Zachary (Charlene) Sincoular, and Rebecca (Tony) Tagliapietra; great-great-grandchildren: Tirzah, Jeremiah, Levi, Silas, Eleanor, Agatha, Alliyah, Brennan, Owen, Lillian, Madelyn, Sophia, and Della; her sister, Judy (Don) Thaves, and her nieces and nephews. Marcille Georgia Stilen, 83, Leeman, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on September 14, 2020, held close in the arms of her family at home, and was carried to heaven in the arms of the Lord she served so well.

Like her father before her, she fought a lengthy but valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born December 11, 1936 to the late Haze Sr. and Adeline (Bednarz) Diemel. Marcie was first and foremost a loving and faithful wife to her husband Joseph A. Stilen, who survives. Joe and Marcie’s deep love for each other and their Lord set the foundation for a marriage relationship spanning 64 years, inspiring their family and many who know them well.

Together Marcie and Joe raised three daughters, Shelby (Jeffery) Fehlhaber, Suzette (Kevin) Sasman and Jodi (Ronald) Krenz. Marcie waited a long time for sons, and she got four of the best in her sons-in-law, one of whom was waiting for her in Heaven. Marcie is further survived by eight grandchildren: Chad (Rebecca) Gerbig, Jennifer (Mark) VanderKoy, Heidi (Joshua) Wiesman, Kathleen (Andrew) Woodward, Trevor Fehlhaber, Tara Fehlhaber, Jeremy (Katrina) Krenz, and Shane (Kelsey) Krenz; 14 great-grandchildren: Emma, Miles, Jack, Adelene, Willow, Simon, Owen, Ella, Emery, Andrew, Cash, Thea, Quinn and Karlee; and one brother, Haze Jr. (Mary) Diemel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. After being greeted by the Lord she loved, she surely was met by those who departed before her: her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mabel (Burton) Stilen, and one son-in-law, Theodore Gerbig.

The Lord blessed Marcie with many talents and she used them well, typically pursuing one or another with passion and commitment before moving to the next. She was a natural teacher, spending many hours teaching and sharing her passions with her children. She enjoyed calligraphy, playing piano, stained glass work, painting, woodworking and gardening. She enjoyed spending time in her kitchen, always making sure she had plenty to share with any friend or neighbor who may be in need. She was an avid needle worker, seamstress and quilter. She chose every piece of fabric with care, worked every stitch with love, and generously gifted many of her quilts to friends, family and charity. Hundreds of people have been on the receiving end of her famous quilted potholders; they were her signature thank you card.

Friends may call from 2:30 p.m. until the time of services at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Nichols (W6712 CTH-F, Shiocton), Rev. Moira Finley officiating. One of Marcie’s wishes was to invite all those who received her cherished quilts, to please bring them to drape over the back of their pew during her memorial service, a final reminder to all of us of how much she loved us. Due to the ongoing public health situation, social distancing rules will be in effect at the visitation and funeral. The church requests that you wear a mask, as you are able, and sit according to the pew markings. If you are not feeling well, please stay home and keep the family in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Trinity United Church of Christ. He fondly remembered his most influential teacher, who worked with him in speech and lip reading in order to connect him with the outside “hearing” world. More than 80 years later, he appreciated her ability to encourage him through her kindness and hugs. Fred attended and graduated from Appleton High School and excelled in sports, competing in football and qualifying for the state track meet at Camp Randall Stadium in the mile event. He played hockey and was an excellent speed skater and was a fast pitch softball pitcher. Fred played basketball with some of the iconic players in Fox Valley history including Guy and Chuck Block. He was proud to have played semi-professional football for the Little Chute Flying Dutchmen as a defensive back and punter (wearing number 28).

Fred started at Pierce Manufacturing under Gene Pierce as a sheet metal worker while it was a small company. Over 40 years later he retired as an engineer. He had tremendous respect for Doug Ogilvie and appreciated that many of his ideas, designs and processes were implemented. He enjoyed his Pierce family, and his sons, Bob and Ed, kept him up to date on Pierce news with their Friday afternoon “union meetings,” right up to the very end. Fred’s luckiest moment was meeting Doris Stephani. They were married on April 22, 1954 in Black Creek. They enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage until her death in 2012. Fred and Doris loved taking road trips and Sunday drives, stopping for casual meals at small diners. They were happiest in each other’s company at home with their dog, Snickers. Fred was an avid reader and took an interest in a wide variety of topics, from religion and politics to cooking and fiction. There was no such thing as trivial conversation with Fred. Visits turned into deep debates or hilarious stories from his childhood. Fred was smart, tough and fair. He didn’t allow his hearing impairment to define who he was or limit his accomplishments. Excuses were unacceptable. Fred was a man of deep faith and hard work.

Fred is survived by his children: Pat (Steve) Grunwald, Tom and his children, Dylan and Monica; Bob (Deb) and their children, Shauna and Chase; Fred (Erica) and their children, Brett, Braden and Ben; Ed (Kathy) and their children, Zachary (Kim), Steffani (Chris) and Jacob (Kahle); Juli (Jeff) Schuh and their children, Conor and Cole (Caitlin). He is further survived by his great-grandchildren: Wilder, Dax, Tenley, Tyson, Sawyer and Sage. Also surviving are Fred’s sisters, Marion “Tootie” Maas, Joan “Dolly” Schmidt, Mya Johnson and his brother-in-law Tom Stephani. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris, whom he missed deeply, and a son, Jimmy. He was also preceded by his daughter-in-law Nan, sister Mildred and brothers, James, Herbert and Jerome.

The Funeral Mass for Fred will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow the service in the Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. For those who are able to attend, please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. Mary Lou Niemuth passed away on September 13, 2020.

She was born in Chicago on October 31, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Shelburn) Patrykus. She was the eldest of eight children. In 1943 the family moved to Irvine, California, before finally relocating to Wisconsin Rapids permanently. After attending high school in Wisconsin Rapids, she worked as a nursing aid at the River View Hospital. In 1946 Mary Lou moved to Duluth Minnesota, where she met and married Lee Scouton. During this period she had her first child, Gail. Following another move back home to Wisconsin Rapids, the family welcomed their second child, Paula. When that marriage ended in divorce, Mary Lou and the girls moved to Tucson, Arizona and Grand Marais, Minnesota, finally settling in Waupaca County which she called home for 65 years. She met the love of her life, Norman Niemuth, at the Chain O’ Lakes Casino. After a short courtship, they were married Saturday April 8, 1961 in St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca. Their relationship was a foundation in Mary Lou’s life. Mary Lou and Norm cherished their home “Little Acres” in Sheridan, WI. It was their little piece of heaven and a gathering place for family members for many years. They enjoyed taking visitors for walks through Little Acres, which included their garden, picking wild blueberries and raspberries, and if you were lucky, getting to flatten coins on the train tracks. After Norman passed she moved into a cute apartment at Angelus Apartments in Waupaca. She lived there for 10 years meeting many new friends along the way, and enjoyed living life as a little old lady. There she immersed herself in talking politics, sports and her family. Mary Lou didn’t know a stranger. Everyone she met was a new “friend”. She was a natural caregiver. If you needed help, food, a place to stay or a shoulder to cry on, she was there. Being the eldest of eight children, she embraced the role of oldest child, being a second mother to her siblings. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.

Mary Lou is survived by siblings, Joan (Max) Moates, Tucson, AZ; Ruth Frohmader, Camp Douglas, WI; Edward (Amelia) Patrykus, El Paso, TX; Dave (Marlis) Patrykus Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Fred Patrykus (Mary Sherwin) Wisconsin Rapids, WI; James (Dinah) Patrykus Bloomington, MN; Kathryn (Jamshid) Javenbahkt, Denver, CO; grandchild, Elizabeth (Jesse) Crain, Appleton; Shelly Babino, Little Chute; great-grandchildren: Josh Meronek, Waupaca; Finn Crain, Appleton; Jordan Meronek, Gabby Fitzsimmons, Little Chute; Chirstien Fitzsimmons, New Lisbon, WI and 57 nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Frances Patrykus; husband Norman Niemuth; children, Paula Scouton and Gail Darinski; grandchildren, Michelle, Jason and Justin Meronek and brother-in-law George Frohmader.

Memorial Service will be on Saturday September 26th at 4:00 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. Visitation from 2 until time of memorial. In lieu of flower,s a memorial has been established in her name.

The family wants to thank everyone who cherished grandma like she was family, even if she wasn’t. She was able to live on her own until she was 91 because of the love of her friends and family. And thank you to the Touchmark staff that took amazing care of her in her final months.

Rindt, Wayne Roger

Wayne Roger Rindt finished his 77 years of earthly work on September 14, 2020. He was blessed to be able to do everything he wanted until the last two weeks when COVID-19 gave him the fight of his life.

Wayne was born on October 26, 1942 to Ervin and Jeanette Rindt and grew up on the family farm on the corner of Rindt Road and Stoney Hill Road in the Town of Larrabee. He attended the single-room Morning Star Elementary School and graduated from Clintonville High School. Wayne met his life-partner, Peggy Radtke, at a dancehall and they married on July 23, 1966. They were blessed with their daughter Kelli, and Wayne enjoyed and participated in Kelli’s activities and achievements. For 44 years, Wayne truly helped make sure areas from Bear Creek to Clintonville to Gresham were connected while working as a lineman, installer, repairman, and operations manager for Urban (Frontier) Telephone Company. He took over the Embarrass Carding Mill from his mother- and father-in-law, Lucille and Gordon Radtke, and enjoyed providing custom quilts for several years. Taking it easy wasn’t really Wayne’s thing. He spent thousands of hours actively involved as an usher, council member, and countless other roles at the church he was baptized and confirmed, Christus Lutheran Church. He especially loved the Christmas season, planning for the church trees and decorations, and warming the home with plenty of Christmas cheer. Wayne lived all his life within a three-mile distance between his boyhood farm and residences in Clintonville. He loved spending time tending the wooded acres passed down from his grandparents. In recent years, he especially loved sharing those experiences with his right-hand-man, great-nephew Jacob. People were the essence of Wayne’s life. On any given day, you could often find him out and about between Marion and Embarrass, socializing and keeping up with the on goings in between. He enjoyed dining out and never said “no” to an invite from friends, and if you were also out and happened to find yourself in the same room as he, you’d know it when he cornered you to say ‘Hi’ and to find out what’s new. Wayne was a Packers fan, stockholder, and enjoyed attending games at Lambeau Field with Kelli and Jeff, as well as enjoying Packer parties in the homes of their friends. But he was also known to say that it was time ‘go out to the woods’, sometimes even by the end of the first quarter. Most important of all to Wayne are his family, and ensuring family bonds and heritage would endure. He was deliberate to bring family together through reunions (and ‘raking the woods’) and he created and diligently maintained four volumes of family history and photos to pass on.

Wayne will be deeply missed by his dear wife Peggy, and daughter Kelli (Jeff Asman). He adored his sister Darhl Viergutz and will be reunited with her husband Warren. He was also blessed to have his sister- and brother-in-law Sue and Don Haws, and the nieces, nephews and families of Dave and Connie Viergutz, Deb and Erich Hintz, Vicki and Jody Goss, Wendy and Lance Haddock, and Jodi and Jeff Sincoular. He is also reunited in Heaven with his parents, and parents-in-law.

Finally, we know that we are not nearly the only ones in which Wayne’s vacancy from our lives will be immense. One way or another, friends, and all touched by Wayne, are asked to join in celebration of Wayne and the gifts he gave us. Friends are welcome to safely (facemasks and distancing required) pay respects as comfortable, at Wayne’s funeral service on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with Rev. Brian Crocker officiating. A brief outdoor gathering adjacent to the church will follow the service. The final procession will leave the church at 12:30 p.m. and pass by the woods he so adored, before heading to Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville for burial. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established by Wayne’s family.

Husband, Father, Brother, Friend, and Uncle Wayne, we will miss your laughter from across the room, hearing your grumble when doing tough puzzles, your excitement to play games with your family, your lessons on how to pile brush, and jibing you about the white squirrel.

A special thanks to the Appleton Medical Center 8th floor staff who allowed us to be by Wayne’s side as he peacefully went into God’s arms.

Lois E. Tomaras, age 94, of Waupaca, WI passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at her residence.

She was born in Chicago, IL on August 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Josiah and Alice (Lindskoog) Porrey. Lois spent her childhood in Chicago. Lois was employed at Standard Oil Company in Chicago where she met and married her husband Angelo on October 5, 1946 in Chicago, Il. After the birth of their first son they moved to Waupaca in 1950. The family continued to grow to include two more sons and a daughter. One of Lois’ first jobs was at Sears Roebuck Company in Chicago as a sales clerk. She later went to work at Standard Oil Company as a secretary. After moving to Waupaca, she stayed home to raise her family. Lois and Angelo enjoyed dancing when living in Chicago. In Waupaca they joined a square dance group. Lois was a den mother for cub scouts and a helper for Brownies and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed playing the piano which she played by ear. She especially enjoyed playing the “Entertainer” for her grandchildren. Lois was very artistic and considered art school at one time but raising her family was more important to her. She enjoyed camping with her family and a special spot to camp for her was Franklin Lake in Eagle River, WI where they spent their annual family vacation.

Lois was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. During that time, she was the head of Altar Guild, sang in the choir, was a charter member and leader of the Trinity Prayer Chain and a member of several Bible study Circles. Lois was a very proficient seamstress and made many of her children and grandchildren’s clothing, quilts and stuffed animals. She also was able to knit and made quilts. Lois was an avid reader and read hundreds of books, including later on books on her Kindle. She loved playing games with her family and friends especially at holiday times. She continued to work at the Ambulance Service for over 30 years and developed many close relationships. No matter how busy Lois was she always took time to listen, understand and never pass judgement. Some of the employees considered her their second mother which continued till the end. Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. She was the most kind, compassionate person anyone would want to meet.
