David E. Uselding, “Dave”, age 79 went home to the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Dave was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 12, 1937 to Eugene and Elinor (nee Hubing) Uselding. Dave and Carol (nee Andlar) were united in marriage on February 15, 1958 in Shorewood, Wisconsin. Dave was a dedicated employee at Evinrude Outboard Motors for 30 years before retiring and relocating from Cedarburg to Iola with his wife Carol. He then went on to work as manager for 13 years at the Glacier Wood Pro-Shop in Iola. Dave was a sweet man with a kind heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing golfing and trips to the casino. His super friendly personality attracted friends everywhere he went. It wasn’t uncommon for Dave to see people he knew no matter where he was, even while on vacation with family in Hawaii. If he purchased new tennis shoes that meant a vacation was soon to come. He enjoyed his life of retirement living it carefree and with structure. You would see him at the Crystal Café for his cup of Joe, know he was napping after the soap opera episode ended and was sitting back relaxing with his beer during cocktail hour which started consistently at 4:00 p.m.

David is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Carol, daughter Ann (Gordon) Legaard, granddaughter Ellie Legaard, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Staniec and family and Kathleen (Robert) Klein. He was preceded in death by his parents. Many friends and other relatives further survive him.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Avenue, Cedarburg, WI at 3:00 p.m. Deacon Tom Surges will officiate. On January 12 our dad, Harry “Doc” S. Caskey, MD, age 91 of Clintonville, slipped peacefully from this earthly life into the arms of Jesus and the joy of Heaven.

Harry Samuel Caskey was born at home on October 15, 1925 at Sylvan Rest Resort, Lac Vieux Desert in the township of Phelps, Vilas Co, WI. He was the tenth and youngest child of Sylvester and Agnes (Lindstrom) Caskey. Harry graduated from Phelps Union Free High School in Phelps with straight A’s, as Valedictorian in June 1943. Prior to graduation he took the Navy V-12 exams and was sworn into the USNR in April, entering active naval duty on July 1, 1943. Following boot camp, Harry was sent to Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA where he entered a premedical program. He remained in the Navy his first year of medical school at Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. He was discharged from active duty in February of 1946.

Harry completed medical school as a civilian, graduating from Marquette University’s College of Medicine in June of 1948 at the age of 22 years. In 1951 with the Korean War being fought, Harry volunteered for a two year hitch in the Air Force. He re-enlisted for an extended tour so he could go to Germany with the medical group as its commanding officer. Although a practicing flight surgeon, Harry’s duties as hospital administrator and Medical Group Commander had him seeing fewer and fewer patients. Plans for the Air Force as a career were reconsidered and he was discharged as a Captain in December 1954. Harry joined a private practice partnership with Dr. Wm. Arnold at the Clintonville Clinic. He remained in service in Clintonville as a “GP” for over forty years, practicing solo for a time and finally among a staff of 140 physicians. Harry delivered over 4,000 babies, 2,000 of them in Clintonville, with 62 sets of twins and one set of triplets. Harry retired after fifty years in medicine on June 30, 1998. Harry met his wife Florence in Milwaukee, where she was a nurse and night supervisor at Milwaukee Hospital. They married on August 20, 1949, enjoying 56 years of marriage before Florence passed away in 2006.

Harry and Florence had five children: Debra (Thomas) Olson, Paul (Joan) Caskey, Mark (Lilly) Caskey, Laurie (Bradd) Zeuske and Kathleen (James) Siegel; nine grandchildren: Erin Schroeder (Steve), Levi Olson (Amy), Eden Keene (Bobby), Elia Wilson (Elias), Sean Caskey (Sara), Mara Jonet (Corey), Shannon Caskey, Angela Siegel, Isaac Siegel and seven great-grandchildren: Caskey, Keena, Micah, Riley, Elissa and two step-great-grandchildren: Chelsea and R.J. Keene. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Dorothy Punke and an Earthly Angel, Myrt Kirchner. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence, siblings: Elmer, Edith, Frieda, Alice, Chet, Gene, Jesse, John, and Ethel.

Harry kept fit in mind, body and spirit. His work as a doctor helped keep all three strong. He was a life-long learner and his favorite pass time was reading, always having a book on hand that he was reading or re-reading! He enjoyed the arts, sharing his appreciation for Shakespeare, music, theater, and literature with his family. Harry exercised regularly at the Rec Center and loved winter sports, still downhill snow skiing at 84 years young! In the warmer months he enjoyed swimming, gardening, and yard work. Harry was active in his church and community. He served on the school board of St. Martin Lutheran School for many years and the Clintonville Public School Board from 1967-1979. He taught Sunday School and Adult Bible classes and held numerous offices at St. Martin church. In 1977 he received the Citizen Award as a friend of education. He was team physician for the High School basketball, football, and gymnastic teams. In 1984 he received the Distinguished Service Award for enthusiastic leadership and support in the field of interscholastic athletics from the National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics. The State Medical Society of Wisconsin chose Harry as Physician Citizen of Wisconsin for the year 1997. Harry’s greatest loves were for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, helping others through his career in medicine, and his community of Clintonville which he dedicated more than half his life to serving.

The Celebration of the Earthly and Eternal Life of Harry Caskey will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, 100 S. Clinton Ave., Clintonville with the Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Stella M. Strand, age 88, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Iola Living Assistance.

She had been challenged by failing health for several months. Funeral will be held at Northland Lutheran Church near Iola on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 12 noon. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the spring at Northland Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Stella was born on November 21, 1928 to the late Clara and Bert N. Omit in Harrison Township, Waupaca County. She was raised on her family’s small farm along with her three siblings – two older sisters and one older brother. After her father passed away, the family moved to Iola. Stella graduated from Iola High School in 1946, and soon thereafter moved to Milwaukee, WI. While living and working in Milwaukee, Stella met George Kovich. They were married in 1950. Stella and George subsequently moved to Hammond, Indiana and then on to Virginia, Minnesota. During that time they were blessed with two daughters, Kay and Glenda. George passed away unexpectedly August 4, 1954. After George’s passing, Stella and her young daughters moved back to Iola. After getting established in Iola again, Stella met Bob Strand, who had recently moved to the area. They were married in 1965, and were soon blessed with a son, Robert Jr. Besides their joint venture into marriage, Stella and Bob also embarked on a joint venture to preserve significant history in the Iola area by acquiring the defunct Iola Mills buildings. Their dream was to develop the mill and its fixtures into a museum of local pioneer history, and so began a 20 year adventure and avocation in researching, restoring, and collecting all things pertinent to the history of the Iola area. For many years Stella was an active member of Northland Lutheran Church and The Iola Historical Society. She was also involved with the local Sons of Norway lodge, and various other organizations. Thursday night bowling league at Silver Lake Lanes was her #1 recreational priority – no matter what – until she reached her late 70’s. Stella will be remembered for her good nature and subtle humor; her “can do” attitude; and her dedication to serving her family, her neighbors, and her community.

Stella is survived by her children and their spouses: Kay Tichonchik of De Pere, WI; Glenda (Randy) Brown of Manawa, WI; and Rob (Mary) Strand of Elk Mound, WI. She is survived by six grandchildren: Ryan Brown, Scott (Brook) Brown, Anne (Luke) Linsmeyer, Tim Tichonchik, Erik Strand, and Jared Strand. Stella is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Averie Brown, Dalton Brown, Grayson Brown, Stella Brown, and Colin Linsmeyer. She was also close to many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Bert N. Omit; by her siblings, Henrietta Ayers, Carla Kosinski, and Bert L. Omit; a son-in-law, James Tichonchik and by her husbands, George Kovich and Robert Strand.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Theda Care At Home, the staff at Iola Living Assistance and Living Oaks for their compassionate care.
