Leo W. McGinty, age 72 of Bear Creek passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Neenah, surrounded by his loving family.
Leo Walter McGinty was born on May 24, 1949 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to Leo and Irene (Norrish) McGinty. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1967. Leo attended UW Oshkosh prior to entering the military. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1970-1972 during the Vietnam Era. Leo was united in marriage on August 23, 1975, to Lynn M. Lorge at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. He was employed for 43 years mostly as a rewind operator at Curwood in New London, retiring in 2015. Leo was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek, actively helping with the sauerkraut festival and other church activities. In his early years, Leo was quite the athlete, playing basketball in high school, and was always an avid sports fan. When his children were young, he liked helping them with their science projects and homework. He was also a skilled craftsman, who over the years enjoyed renovating the family home, his labor of love. Leo had an ear for music and made his own playlists of songs for relatives to enjoy at family functions and while playing cards. He often enjoyed the outdoors; whether he was at the shooting range or going fishing, especially for walleye, bass, salmon, or pan fish. Leo always cherished his time spent up north at Pickerel Lake with the family, a 40-year tradition. Leo loved the special trips the family took together to California, Hawaii, Florida and the Columbia River Gorge, just to name a few. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandson, nieces and nephews. Leo will be remembered most as a selfless and humble person who thought about others first. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lynn; and two children, Ryan (Assaf Weinberg) McGinty of California, and Katie (Seth) Anderson of Hawaii; and one grandson, Dylan Jacob Anderson. There are five siblings: Mary Skourtis of Menasha, John (friend Joanne Reinke) McGinty of Bear Creek, Margaret McDaniel of Menasha, Tom (Sandra) McGinty of Arizona, and Dan (Lori) McGinty of River Falls. There are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Patricia (Dale) Paiser of Shawano, Terry (Lynn) Lorge of Clintonville, Deb (Wayne) Brady of Gresham, and Kathy (Mark) Kraeger of Marion. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Irene McGinty, and his in-laws, Duane and Durane Lorge.
