Rita Marie Anderson, age 77 of Osceola, IA, formerly of Waupaca, WI passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in Indianola, IA.

Rita was born on November 18, 1941, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Stelling) Wagner in Park Ridge, IL. Rita was a hardworking, independent, compassionate lady who always put others before herself. Rita and her children moved from Wauconda, IL to Waupaca, WI in 1976 to be closer to her parents. She spent most of her life in Waupaca until her health started to fail and moved to Osceola, IA to be closer to her daughter.

Rita is survived by her children, Tracy (Tim) Schroder of Osceola, IA; Todd (Sara) Kane of Chicago, IL; Troy (Renee) Kane of Three Lakes, WI; grandchildren: Michael Kane, Meighan Kane, Rachel Kane, Isabel Kane; brothers: Ralph Wagner, Ron Wagner, Richard (Connie) Wagner; sister-in-law Shirley Wagner; also many other relatives and friends. Rita is preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband Andy; brother Roger Wagner; sister-in-law Janice Wagner.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3rd at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. Pastor Jeff Fletcher will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Holly’s. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery, Town of Farmington. Schmit, Donald “Don” James

Donald “Don” James Schmit, 73, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019 surrounded by his family at Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, WI.

Don was born June 15, 1945 in Jamestown, ND, son of Edward and Cecelia (Weiler) Schmit. He and his four brothers and four sisters worked long days on the family farm and attended a one-room country school together. In 1963, Don graduated Lisbon High School and went on to ND State School of Science. Don also proudly served his country in the ND National Guard. In the fall of 1970, he met his best friend and love of a lifetime, Cheryl “Chere” (Kobs) in Appleton, WI. April 29, 1972 the two wed and have been together almost everyday for the past 47 years. Chere and Don lived and worked together. In fact, Don first met Chere when he hired her at Montgomery Wards. Not long after in October 1979, they opened Hardware Plus in Waupaca, WI. In January of 2007 they closed their store’s doors. Don spent the next 11 years working at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King as a locksmith, snow plow driver and jack of all trades. He was well known for his wit and BS. On the side, Don loved to tinker and create things. He took up many hobbies and excelled in them. He particularly enjoyed creating items using stained glass. He was a Master Gardener, avid hunter, family-man and outdoorsman.

He is survived by two of his children, Jaime of Waupaca, WI and Chris (Abbie) of LaGrange Park, IL. He will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren, Aiden and Emma of Waupaca and Norah and Miles of LaGrange Park. Don is also survived by brothers, Edward (Bertha) of Davis, CA; John of Salida, CA, and William (Amy) of Wahpeton, ND; his sisters, Ellen Olmstead (Richard) of Brainerd, MN; Barbara Cameron of Montgomery, TX; Susan Killingbeck (Keith) of Charlestown, RI, and sister-in-law Cheryl K (Joseph). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen and Mary Ann; brother, Joseph and daughter, Jennifer.

A remembrance celebration will be held at First United Methodist Church, Waupaca on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and a Memorial Service will follow at 4:00. We invite everyone to come out and share their memories and love for Don and his family.

Sandra “Sandy” L. Olson, age 73 of Embarrass passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, May 31, 2019 at her home.

Sandy was born on July 19, 1945 in New London as the daughter of the late Ralph and Violet (Bricco) Young. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1963 and worked for Kimberly Clark in Neenah. On May 22, 1965 Sandy was united in marriage to Wayne Olson at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville where she was still a current member. Sandy served the Village of Embarrass on their Election Board and was also the village’s Secretary/Treasurer for many years. She looked forward to her Canasta Card Club games each month and enjoyed the many friendships that came with it. In her spare time, Sandy could be found knitting, gardening, camping with friends at Farmer Gene’s Campground, and playing with her dog. One of her favorite things to do was scrapbooking; especially when it came to chronicling her grandchildren’s growth throughout the years. She made family her focal point in life and loved decorating for the holidays because it meant spending time with them.

Survivors include: her husband, Wayne; daughters, Michelle (Dave) Huber and Tanya (Tim) Ubersox; grandchildren: James and Brenton Hicks; Alyssa Coan; Richard, Lance, and Kolbe Ubersox; and Ariana and Zachary Huber; great-grandchildren, Kaiden Coan and Elaina Rineck; siblings: Sheila (Jim) Villiesse, Tom (Nancy) Young, and Annie (Brandon) Stern. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jordan Ubersox, and in-laws Leona and Bernard Stabnaw.

Sandy’s memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville with Fr. Jack Mullarkey and Deacon Lincoln Wood officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established by her family. Judy May Speer of Waupaca, WI, daughter of Harvey Eugene and Violet May (Marquardt) Speer (both deceased), passed away the morning of May 22, 2019 after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, she graduated in 1971 from Barstow High School (CA).

She is survived by her siblings, Bonita (Bonnie) Lynn (Speer) and her husband Donald Wayne Vanhook and James Robert Speer and his wife Kimberly An (Hasten) both of Barstow, CA.

She was mother to three daughters, Anesha Tatianna Womble (deceased), Desiree Winona Gunter and Sholawna Monique Gunter, both of Waupaca, WI. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Zion and Joseph (Desiree) and Tianna, Leilani, Angelo and Zoe (Sholawna).

Porter-Frisch, Stella B.

Stella B. Porter-Frisch, age 81, of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Portage County Health Care Center while under the care of Ministry Hospice.

A Celebration of Life Service for Stella will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – 3200 Stanley St. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the service at Shuda’s. Memorials in lieu of flowers will be established in Stella’s name for St. Jude Children Hospital, Susan B Komen, and Shriners Hospital of Minnesota.

Stella was born July 25, 1937 in Stauton, IN, the daughter of William and Stella E. (Wheeler) Porter. As a child the family moved to Vesper, then settled on a farm in Wisconsin Rapids. Stella was a 1955 graduate of Rudolph High School. On January 14, 1957 she married Jerry Southern. The couple moved to Stevens Point and later divorced in 1971. Stella worked at Judds Drive In and Herrschners for many years along with taking care of her family. She married Felix Frisch on June 12, 1976, and after they both retired in 1985 moved to Fremont, WI on the Wolf River. Felix took ill in 2000, and they moved back to Stevens Point early in 2001, he passed away Oct. 8, 2001. Stella enjoyed all types of crafts, puzzles, game shows, gardening, flowers, fishing, and playing cards. She served as a volunteer at the VFW tent at the Iola Car Show, at the King Veterans Home, and for Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her three children: Linda (Mark) Miller, Sue Kranski (Tony Mertes), and William Southern; five grandchildren: Tina, Liza, Molly, Tony and Joe.; five great-grandchildren: William, Autumn, Kendra, Katlynn, Monroe; 10 stepchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Felix, two infant brothers, and her best friend Noreen Zellner.

Stella’s family wishes to thank all her Doctors throughout her care, the Portage County Health Care Center and their staff, along with Ministry Hospice. Extra special thank you to the Home Health Staff- Michelle and Kelly- you were family to Mom!

Ostrowski, Dorothy Helen (Karch)

Dorothy Helen (Karch) Ostrowski passed away on May 28, 2019 at age 98, after four days in the Iola Nursing Facility.

She was born on December 25, 1920 in New Hope to the late Thomas and Julia (Koziczkowski) Karch. She graduated from Emerson High School in Stevens Point. During WWII, Dorothy served in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps from 1944 to 1946 as a pharmacist’s mate based in San Francisco. After her service, she worked and met Chester Ostrowski. They married in 1951 and built a beautiful home in the Milwaukee area where Dorothy was an avid gardener. The family moved to Scandinavia, WI in 1961. Dorothy was a homemaker, parent and ran the Scandinavia Hardware and Washbasket coin laundry with her husband. After Chester passed away in 1996, she officially retired but kept very busy. Until recently she had a fitness routine that included aqua exercise and weight machines. She was an active volunteer for the Waupaca Lioness Club and made friends easily. Dorothy had a good sense of humor and shared her passion for nature, art and music with her children. She always had plants growing inside and out; from asparagus at home to tomatoes at Park Vista Independent Living where she lived for the last six years. A newspaper subscriber to the end, she looked forward to solving the word jumble in every edition. Dorothy was a member of Sodality and a devoted Catholic with a decades-long membership at St. Mary Magdalene. After losing her mother at age 12, one of her most significant relationships was with her sister, Evelyn, who passed away last year at 100 years old.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John, Stanley and Leonard Karch; and sister, Evelyn Pionkowski. Dorothy is survived by her sons: Thomas (Diane) of Luxemburg, WI; David (Sharon) of Deerwood, MN, and Daniel (Diane Pearson) of Minneapolis MN; daughters, Barbara Gasterland (Hans) and Judy Ostrowski, both of Minneapolis MN; grandchildren, Michael Ostrowski and Carol Deming (Nick); and great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Audrey Deming, along with many loved nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the visitation on Sunday, June 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holly and Sons Funeral Home, 526 South Main Street, Waupaca. There will be a rosary service from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Additional visitation at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, N2845 Shadow Road, Waupaca, on Monday, June 10 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the 11:00 a.m. funeral service. The service will be officiated by Fr. Xavier Santiago, followed by burial in the parish cemetery in Waupaca. Following the burial there will be a light lunch in the St. Mary Magdalene Church fellowship hall. There will also be a celebration of Dorothy’s life in the Twin Cities in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name to Waupaca Senior Center and Waupaca Lions club are welcome and appreciated.

Laura L. Turner, age 40, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

She was born on September 16, 1978 in Orange County, CA, daughter of Bruce and Terri (Christoffersen) Turner. Laura was a 1997 graduate of Hortonville High School. She went on to pour herself into her passions for teaching and helping/lifting others pursuing her personal and professional growth. She became certified as an online educator through George Williams College for Aurora University and has a Bachelors Degree in Science Education with a major in biology and minor in mathematics through the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. She excelled her way through Project Lead the Way certifications in Principles of Biomedical Science and Human Body Systems through Missouri S&T, and Project Lead the Way certifications in Medical Interventions and Biomedical Innovations from Milwaukee School of Engineering. And let’s not forget her Master’s Degree in Education Technology through Marian University. Every ounce of what Laura learned in life was poured into her students, athletes, friends, family and clients. Laura has been teaching and athletic coaching since 2002; teaching MS/HS math, science, and several Project Lead The Way courses, coaching basketball, volleyball, softball, and fast pitch pitchers from all around. Laura also became a Herbalife health coach to help people of all ages to live happy healthy lives. She passed her wisdom on to each of us in a special way and taught us positivity, courage, humility, and vulnerability while maintaining that you can do anything competitive spirit!

Laura is survived by her parents, Bruce and Terri Turner, Hortonville; sister Rachel (Kyle) Stankevitz, Manitowoc; grandparents, Dalton and Sylvia Christoffersen, Atlantic, IA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; Love of her life, Mike Bonack, New London and beloved pets, Bailey and Miley. She was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Herman and Mildred Turner; uncle in infancy, Rodney Christoffersen.

Funeral services for Laura will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Greenville with Rev. Steven Kline officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Dale Union Cemetery. Gonnering, Larry D.

Larry D. Gonnering of Waupaca, formerly of Appleton, age 79, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at home.

He was born in the Town of Freedom on January 13, 1940 to the late Lawrence and Alice (Van Thiel) Gonnering. On May 6, 1961 he married the love of his life, Therese Griesbach. Larry was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca. He was a truck driver for many years and retired from USF Holland. Since day one, Larry was a true gentleman – gentle and kind. Therese has always said, “they don’t make them like Larry anymore.” They were inseparable – never without each other. He treated her like a queen. Larry was the best man. A man of strong faith. He was genuine and selfless. He made a lasting impression on anyone he met. He was a family man through and through. His unconditional love and patience made him the best role-model to all.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Therese; daughters: Connie (Jerry) Gietman, Sandy (Dale) Earley, Jodi (Brian) Schwaegler; grandchildren: Drew (Stephanie), Brittany (Brady), Tylor (Nicole), Courtney (Taylor), Brock, Alison, Ashley (Lance) and Matthew; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary (Rollie) Hermes, Jerome (Jan) Gonnering, Ed (Judy) Gonnering, Fran (Betty) Gonnering, Betty (Jon) Pengelly, sister-in-law, Judy Gonnering; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff, son-in-law, O.J. Bunno; great-grandson, Noah Gietman and brothers, Joe and Ves.

The Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with Father Xavier Santiago officiating. Friends and family may gather on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. The family would like to thank Dr. Phillips and Daisy, the Oncology Nurses, ThedaCare Hospice Nurses, Dr. Spencer, as well as, Lauri with St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church for all their wonderful care of Larry. James Robert O’Brien, age 78 of Waupaca, WI passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI after a brief illness.

Jim was born to Robert and Ethel O’Brien on January 30, 1941 in New London, WI. He attended Maple Hill Grade School in the Town of Lebanon and graduated from New London High School. Jim was united in marriage to Shirley Buttolph on October 21, 1961 in New London, WI. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2002. He married Mary Jo Quackenboss on August 5, 2004 in Stillwater, MN. Jim was co-founder of O’Brien Builders, O’Brien Home Center, National Windows and owner of James Company. Jim was a “Master of Much” and server of many. His favorite jobsite was the “sap shed” at the O’Brien Maple Grove and his most cherished award was Master Sapper. Jim was an active member of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Waupaca, WI and a member of The Knights of Columbus Council 3432.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; two daughters, Therese (David) Miller, St. Michael, MN and Jenifer (Michael) Richart, Carmel, IN; four sons, Sam (Melissa) O’Brien, New London; Terry (Beth) O’Brien, Appleton; Tommy O’Brien, Waupaca and Ben (Anna) Stark, Sacramento, CA; 13 grandchildren: Allie (AJ) Paoletti, Corey O’Brien, Nathan (special friend Lindsay), Jacob (special friend Samantha), Nicholas O’Brien, Cameron and Emily Miller, Jillian and Alec Aragon, Nicholas Richart, Payne, Fritz and Duke Stark; two great-grandchildren, Aria and Rylee Paoletti; siblings: Gene O’Brien, Tom (Judy) O’Brien, Brian (Patricia) O’Brien, Betty Retzke, Mary (Ray) Hosmer, Sara (Andy) Thomack, Robert (Kathleen) O’Brien, Martin (Rita) O’Brien, Joe (Lori) O’Brien, Ann (Mike) Warning, Ed (Jenny) O’Brien, Peter (Lorena) O’Brien, David (Kim) O’Brien and Bridget (Tom) Wenman. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley; daughter, Heidi; brother, Bill; sister-in-law, Jeanne; daughter-in-law, Anne; nephews, Steven, Andrew James and Jason.

The funeral service for Jim will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, N2845 Shadow Rd, Waupaca, WI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London, WI with a tribute taking place from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Visitation will again take place on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Joyce A. Rasmussen, age 84 of Clintonville, passed away Friday evening, June 7, 2019, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.

Joyce Ann Rasmussen was born November 8, 1934 to the late George and Amber (Brown) Burt. She graduated with the class of 1953 from Edgar High School. Joyce moved to Stevens Point, WI to attend U.W. Stevens Point, and while attending classes, she also worked at the Copp’s Supermarket. She met Vernon D. Rasmussen while in school; the two were later married on August 31, 1957 in Marshfield, at the Presbyterian Church. The couple moved to Clintonville where Vern was hired as a teacher. Joyce was able to be a stay-at-home mom while the couple started a family. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Clintonville, where she sang in the choir and was a part of the Women’s Circle. After her two sons were a bit older, Joyce worked at a few places locally: Erickson’s Pharmacy & Home Medical, First National Bank, and Honey Creek. She was also active in fundraising and book sales at the Clintonville Public Library. Joyce really loved nature, animals, bird watching, and will certainly be missed by her loyal Black Labrador, “Dolly.” She enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilting, and cross-stitch; and always made time to watch the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers play. She’ll be remembered as a very giving, community-minded person, who always remembered to send cards and flowers to loved ones and friends. Joyce loved her family to the fullest, and was devoted to her sons and all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her: sons, Scott (fiancée, Jacqueline Schaffer) Rasmussen, Weyauwega, WI; Kurt (Colleen) Rasmussen, Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren: Jordyn (Charles Williams) Rasmussen, Cole (Jana Peterson) Rasmussen, and Nicholas Rasmussen; great-grandchild, Juna Rasmussen; and a brother, Lowell Burt, Jackson, WI. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; and a brother, George Burt.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, with the Rev. Diana Ziegler officiating. Inurnment will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Duberstein, Lafayette “Lafe” Alvin

On Monday, June 3, 2019, Lafe Duberstein, loving father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away at his home in Northland, WI at the age of 90.

Lafe was born on May 6, 1929 in Marathon County to the late Hazel (Williams) and John Duberstein. Lafe was an Army veteran, he served in the artillery division in Germany shortly after WWII. During his time in the military he married Eleanor Lahr, they had their first child and lived in Germany while he served there. After his time in the military, he moved to Kenosha, WI and quickly got a job driving truck across country for ARCO Auto Carriers. After 27 years of employment, Lafe retired from truck driving and decided to support himself and his family doing hobby farming and growing ginseng in Iola, WI. During this time, Lafe had six children with his first wife, Eleanor Lahr (Farrell). April 1, 1995 Lafe married Betsy Behnke in Northland, WI. She preceded him in death in 2001. Lafe loved country living including raising animals, gardening and woodworking. He often frequented the Merde Sawmill and enjoyed the camaraderie of friends there. Lafe had a positive outlook on life which kept him youthful till the end. He often shared stories from his younger years with everyone and anyone who wanted to listen. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. He especially enjoyed working on vehicles and tractors with his nephew David as well as going out for a good BBQ or a big plate of pancakes with strawberries and a whip cream smiley face. Lafe had a wonderful celebration of his 90th birthday at Northland Ballroom on May 4th. He was so happy to see everyone that came to help him celebrate and gave out many hugs.

He is survived by his children: Joe (Jane) Duberstein, Donald (Linda) Duberstein, Jeff Duberstein, Nancy (Eric) Melum, Mike (Cheryl) Duberstein, Steven Duberstein; stepchildren, John (Doreen Behnke), Betty (Bradley) Bembenek; siblings: Charles “Chuck” (Margaret) Duberstein, Julius (Joyce) Duberstein, William “Billy” (Carol) Duberstein, Carol Jean (Dale) Hintze; 21 grandchildren: Scott, Kurt, Keith, Emily, Aaron, Melissa, Dana, Jennifer, Karl, Kayla, Sara, Jamie, Megan, Zeke, Trisha, David , Nicky, Brandon, Holly, Eric, and Megan , and 19 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 12-noon on June 15,2019 at the Peplin VFW in Mosinee Wisconsin.

Jerald “Jerry” Button of Waupaca, age 71, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at home.

He was born in Waupaca on January 31, 1948 to the late Daniel and Lucille (Vetter) Button. On June 23, 1990 he married Beatrice Lipke. Jerry had been a member of both Archery and Trapshooting Clubs. He enjoyed visiting with his friends at the Truck Stop. Jerry loved animals, especially his cats.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Bea; son, Mark (Nicki) Lipke; grandsons, Gavin and Riley; mother-in-law, Lucille Lipke; brother-in-law, Al (Julie) Lipke; and sisters-in-law, Jean Button and Mary Shanak; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Collin; brother, Ron and father-in-law, Clarence.

The Funeral Service will be on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. The visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Lind Center Cemetery. Due to allergies, in lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial.

October 19, 1922 – June 8, 2019

Bernice M. Nesbitt, 96, of New London, WI passed away quietly on June 8th, and led a beautiful Life.

A wife to Robert for over 50 years, one of four daughters to Frank and Elizabeth Carey of New London, a sister to Lucille Pohlman (of New London), Arlene Ritchie (of Milwaukee), Rosemary Fulcer (of Appleton); mother of two children, Kathryn Maddie (husband Sam of Elmwood Park, IL) and James Nesbitt (of Elmwood Park, IL); grandmother to Jenessa Rose Rodriguez (husband Ricky of Glendale Heights, IL) and Laura Marie Nesbitt (of Oak Park, IL) and great-grandmother of Scarlett Rodriguez.

Bernice’s loved ones were by her side when she drifted off to be with the Lord. She was born to Frank and Elizabeth Carey in Lebanon where she met future husband Robert. While Robert served in the Navy during WWII, Bernice contributed to the War Effort in Chicago. After the War she and Robert married in 1946 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lebanon with reception in Greenville at the Silver Dome. They returned to Chicago for their careers. Robert (deceased in 1999) was a Chicago Carpenter for 32 years and Bernice raised two children, Kathryn (deceased 2017) born in 1951 and James 1957. Upon their retirement they immediately returned back to the New London area and became snowbirds for the next 17 years. Upon her husband’s death in 1999 she remained in the New London area to be close with her family and also stayed with her children in the Chicagoland area. Her last four years she lived at Trinity Terrace (St. Joseph’s Nursing Home) where the staff took excellent and loving care for Bernice.

Bernice will be laid to rest with her husband, Robert and daughter, Kathryn at Most Precious Blood Cemetery, N36750 Bean City Road in New London, Wisconsin following services on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 712 S. Pearl Street in New London, WI. There will be a mass said in her name. Visitation for Bernice will be Thursday, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. Commital services will take place at the cemetery from 12-12:30 p.m. followed by a lunch at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Lorenz, Gladys Lily

Gladys Lily Lorenz, age 99, of Weyauwega, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Crossroads Care Center in Weyauwega.

She was born on June 14, 1919 in Bear Creek, daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Jorgensen) Meidam. Gladys graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1937. On December 18, 1943, she was united in marriage to Paul Lorenz in Houlton, Oregon. He preceded her in death in 1999. While she lived in Oregon, she worked for the Railroad Co. She then became a welder at Williamette Shipyards and worked on submarines and minesweepers during World War II. After her marriage to Paul, they moved to North Dakota. In 1947, they moved back to Wisconsin. She worked with her husband in the family business, Paul’s Processing Plant. She then worked for Taylor Cheese in Weyauwega until her retirement. Gladys loved baking and gardening, but she especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Royalton Christian Church and their ladies aid.

She is survived by her children: Darlene (Robert) Bork, Beverly (Gary) Smith, Carol (Gordon) Javoroski, Barbara (John) Recker; stepson, Charles (Geri) Munro; son-in-law, Gaylord Pingel; grandchildren: Karen Pecha, Sharon (Shane) Kempf, Kevin Pingel, Jeff (Rachel) Pingel, Pam (Eric) Wettering, Christy (Mark) Hartmann, Jodie (Terry) Morgan, Susan Bellile, Brian Javoroski; step-grandchildren, David and Jeff Munro; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bernice Meidam; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Marlene Pingel; two sisters, Lucille (Harold) Hansen and Beatrice (Pete) Starchaska; a brother, Arthur Meidam and a niece, Janice Starchaska.

The Christian Funeral for Gladys will be celebrated on what would be her 100th birthday on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Royalton Christian Church with Rev. Tom Theama officiating. Burial will be in Royalton Cemetery. A visitation for Gladys will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Cline Hanson Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega is serving the family.
