Conrad Anthony Baumer, 86, of King, WI, formerly of Manawa, passed away early Thursday morning, August 29, 2019, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family.

Conrad was born in the Town of Little Black on December 11, 1932, one of nine children of Leo and Margaret (nee Ebert) Baumer. As a youngster, he attended Victory School, and upon graduation he worked for various farmers in the neighborhood, then other occupations as he grew older.

At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army, and began serving in Korea in December of 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War. He was wounded in March of 1951, and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his discharge in July of 1953, he studied auto mechanics under the GI Bill and moved to Manawa to become employed at the Ford Garage. During the next several years he was employed at various garages in the Clintonville and New London area. Conrad married the former Henrietta Gehrke on August 27, 1955. After residing in the City of Manawa for several years, they moved to a home in the Town of Little Wolf.

Conrad began his business career by building an alignment shop, naming the business “Connie’s Alignment.” In 1968 he expanded his business by starting a Polaris Snowmobile dealership, and followed that in 1974, by acquiring the Harley Davidson Motorcycle dealership and eventually acquiring the Suzuki Motorcycle franchise. As a result of the success of “Connie’s” businesses, he and his wife enjoyed all-expense paid trips to Monte Carlo, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago, IL and Wisconsin Dells, WI. “Connie” loved riding motorcycles, and, along with several other enthusiasts, formed the “Connie’s 74 Riders” motorcycle club. He and some of the other members made trips to the Black Hills, South Dakota, New Orleans, LA and the Harley Davidson plant in Pennsylvania, in addition to various sightseeing trips in Wisconsin. They began policing parades, and were especially proud to have the duty of crowd control for the Mid-Western rodeo parade in Manawa. He was an avid hunter of raccoons, fox, coyotes and bear. Having four daughters, it just made sense that he sponsor a women’s softball team, named “Connie’s Harley Davidson.”

As retirement approached, he was able to sell his dealerships, and in February of 2018, ill health forced him to become a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, Wisconsin. On Tuesday, August 27th, Conrad and Henrietta celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary by sitting in chairs in the Vets Home courtyard, eating a dessert, sharing a Cherry Pepsi and watching the boats traveling on the waters between Taylor Lake and Rainbow Lake. Later that evening his ill health became worse and the following morning he began suffering more and more, putting up a courageous fight, until it finally overcame him early in the morning of the 29th.

Conrad and Henrietta were blessed with four daughters, three of whom survive, Jodell Rowland, Eden Prairie, MN; Connie (Randy) Klotzbuecher, Manawa and Jeanne (Bernie) Bauer, Fremont, WI. Also surviving are grandsons: Tony (Kristi) Klotzbuecher, Manawa; Joseph (Kelly), and Michael Rowland, Minneapolis, MN; Daniel (Abby) Bauer, Lake Mills, WI and David Bauer, Van Nuys, CA. Granddaughters surviving are Rachael (Brandon) Pierce, Los Angeles, CA; Caitlin Rowland, Chicago, IL and Jamie (Joe) Heise, Dale, WI, along with great-grandchildren Claire, Taylor, Briannah, Delaney, Colton and Connor. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Leonhard Gehrke of Janesville, WI. He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Robert Pierce; his mother and father; brother,s Leon and Dennis, and sisters: Sylvia Blasel, Rosalie Meyer, Carmella Wocelka, Marlene Baumer, Elizabeth Sackman and Valerie Baumer. Also father and mother in-law, and a number of brothers in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the main chapel on the grounds of the Veterans Home at King, Wisconsin, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke officiating. A visitation for Conrad will be held on Friday evening September 6th, at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and also on Saturday at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established. The Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa is serving the family. www.clinehansondahlkefuneralhomes.com

We are grateful to the caring staff at Ainsworth Hall, especially Barb, who were his “family” during the last chapter of his life.

Marvin (Bud) E. Schoenick, age 93, of Weyauwega went to heaven on Friday, September 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 3, 1926 in Elgin, Illinois, son of the late Doc and Ardice (Potratz) Schoenick. On April 7, 1945, he married Bernice Kuehl in Corpus Christi, Texas. They were married for 68 years before Bernice went to heaven in 2013. Marvin and Bernice farmed for 42 years in the Town of Lind and Marvin worked for the school district of Weyauwega-Fremont for over 25 years. Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then re-enlisted during the Korean War. Marvin was a member of the Legion Post 176 and the VFW Post 10407. Aside from his children, farming was his greatest sense of pride and accomplishment in his life. Marvin was also an avid blood donor and donated countless gallons over the years to give back to his community (and he also enjoyed the cookies and company). Marvin loved visits from his family, time at the auction house, playing cards and cribbage, doing cross word puzzles, traveling with Bernice, and he shared many stories about his life. Marvin’s stories will forever be held close in the hearts of those who shared his love. Marvin leaves a legacy of hard work, a strong sense of determinism, a witty sense of humor and sarcasm and a love that continued to grow over time.

He is survived by his children: Billy (Carol) Schoenick, Wayne Schoenick, Nancy (Mike) Kempf, Jayne (Brent) Dittmann and Tammy Schoenick (Scooter). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lawrence A. Guyette, age 63, of New London passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019.

Lawrence was born on June 8, 1956 to Harland and Edna (Eagen) Guyette. On March 15, 1975, Lawrence married Brenda (Malliet) Guyette. He worked at the Neenah Foundry for 35 years until his health issues forced him to retire in 2009. In their free time, Brenda and Larry loved to travel taking road trips around the United States and trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and Dominican Republic with Ixtapa, Mexico being his favorite vacation destination. Along with being an avid traveler, camping at Pine Grove for the past 22 years made him a seasonal camper. “Oh the fun we had there, lots of wonderful friends and his special camping family.” Larry and Brenda took Graham to South Dakota in 2005 and also took Jacob in 2018. Some of his hobbies were riding around the campground and stopping to talk to everyone on his golf cart. He absolutely loved campfires with Krueger, listening to old music with Canadian Hunter and diet dew, and a shot of tequila with Aaron. Happily enough, Lawrence was able to visit the camper one last time on August 24 and visit with friends, tell stories, shed some tears and have a drink or two. Truly was a great day with a show of love and support. He was an avid fan of NASCAR especially Terry Labonte, Green Bay Packers and the Brewers.

He is survived by his loving wife Brenda; children, Jason (Tanya) Guyette and Tracy Guyette; special grandsons, Graham and Jacob; his mother Edna Guyette; mother-in-law, Charlotte Larsen; siblings: Michael (Alice); Ken; Jody (Kathi); Dorie (Gary) Konetzke; Lorie (Todd) Guyes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Randy (Colleen) Fletcher, Pam (Robert) Delzer, Muggs (Mark) Rodgers, Linda Everson, Phyllis Van Ark, Michelle Malliet.
