He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Town of Caledonia, and was confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. In 1970 they were transferred to Van Wert, Ohio with the Borden Company where he was a supervisor there for 12 years until the plant closed. He was a very active member in their church in Van Wert, holding several offices and serving on many boards. After retiring in 1984 they moved back to Appleton where he lived a busy life, always working and fixing things, taking pride in his garden and immaculate lawn and shrubs. He took his daily walks, went to the YMCA, played cards, bowled (was even in a Wii bowling league until a week before his death) and enjoyed fishing at his son’s cottage. He loved music and played (by ear) on his piano and organ. He liked golfing at Countryside in Kaukauna where they had a membership for several years. He enjoyed the Bible Class at church, being a greeter there, and singing at the nursing home. He looked forward to going to Florida every winter for three months and making so many friends there. He loved playing cribbage with his son, who came over 4-5 times a week in the morning to play an hour with his dad. He especially loved his visit to his daughter and son-in-law when they lived in Athens, Greece. He and June celebrated 72 years of marriage this year. What a great life he had! In 2012 they sold their home in Appleton and moved to Ridgeview-Highlands where he continued to enjoy bowling, cards, and other activities at the clubhouse.

Roger E. Henschel, age 79 of the Township of Union, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton.

Roger Edward Henschel was born July 23, 1938 in the Town of Union to the late Edward and Theresa (Froemming) Henschel. He attended Marble School, a one-room schoolhouse, and later attended Clintonville High School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, Roger worked for the Clark Oil Station, Clintonville; he also joined the National Guard to serve his country. Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Sinkewicz at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville on December 7, 1957. The couple met in high school at a lumberjack-themed party when Roger asked Geri to be his partner in a cross-cut sawing competition, which they won. He was employed by the FWD Corp., Clintonville for a time, and later started farming and never really stopped. He also sold and installed Patz farm equipment in addition to his own farming. Roger was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Symco, where he was a church elder and served as an usher. He also served the Township of Union for 20 years; first as Town Supervisor and later as Town Chairman, and also on the cemetery board. Roger also served on the Manawa Fire & Ambulance Board. He made maple syrup for over 55 years; starting with a small operation which later grew into Maplrij Farms with over 1000 taps a year. While Roger loved the outdoors and never missed a hunting season, his method of deer hunting differed a bit from the rest of the group. He wouldn’t sit in a tree stand and wait for the deer to come to him, instead, he preferred to walk through the woods and look for the deer himself. He also enjoyed fishing and taking friends and family out on the pontoon boat. Luck was usually on his side, both in friendly dice games and at the casino. Roger will be remembered as a hard-worker who would always speak his mind, as well as a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Geri; sons: Jeff (Diana) Henschel, Manawa; Jon (Jan) Henschel, Clintonville; Jay (Bonnie) Henschel, Clintonville; Joel (Laurie) Henschel, Clintonville; grandchildren: Christopher (Megan) Henschel, Heather (Reece) Cooper, Justin Henschel, Jennifer (Griffin) Wiley, Jordan (Carmen Johnson) Henschel, Jaceena (Zack) Weaver, Jared Henschel, Amanda Henschel and Kathryn Henschel; great-grandchildren: Jalyn and Jack Henschel, Jaxon and Liam Weaver; and a sister, Patricia (Kenneth) Klitzman, Bailey’s Harbor. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, LaVonne in infancy; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Melissa Henschel.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco with the Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Interment will take place at Marble Cemetery, Township of Union. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville; and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. He was an avid outdoorsman and three time Wisconsin State Champion as a competitive horseshoe player. Ron loved to “tinker” and always had a hammer or screwdriver in his hands. Agnes Elizabeth Marchel of Waupaca, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Bethany Home.

She was loved by her family and many friends and her memory will be forever cherished. The daughter of the late Ester and Arnold Soderberg, Agnes was born in Crystal Falls, Michigan on September 13, 1925. While living in Crystal Falls she sang in the church and high school choir and learned to play piano, organ and violin. After graduating high school, she moved to Milwaukee where she attended Milwaukee Business Institute, and was employed until her marriage, at the Spence and Hanley law firm in Milwaukee. There she met, fell in love and married Eugene E. Marchel who was in the Army working at the Army Recruiting Service in Milwaukee. They married on May 4, 1946 and resided in Milwaukee until the war was over. They then moved to the family farm in Dancy, WI. There raising three children – Conny, Sally and Lloyd. They moved to Waupaca, WI in 1952 where Agnes and Eugene ran a successful business (Marchels Auto/Body) for many years. Agnes was the accountant and “jack of all trades” with that business. They moved to “Marchel Acres” in 1953 and together Agnes and Gene managed a hobby farm raising black angus, pigs, chickens, several dogs, Old Smokey the horse (that is until he bucked off one of the kids), and lots of dogs and cats. Agnes loved gardening and maintained a very large vegetable garden, berry patch, orchard and flower gardens. She canned and froze the bounty of food for her family. Agnes tended their 16 acres with an appreciation of nature, conservation and preservation, planting many trees and shrubs for wildlife. Her gardens were full of vegetables for the table and beautiful flowers for the heart (and church). She was a conservationist, 4-H Leader, Garden Club member, Waupaca County Master Gardener, taught organ and piano to adults and children. Agnes played the organ at the Farmington Lutheran Church for 36 years and sang in their choir. She was a wonderful cook inviting people into her home who always left with goodies. She shared her plants with many people in the community and state. Agnes also worked for many years at the College of Agriculture, Department of Land Conservation and several other departments at the county level. She had a very strong faith, was well respected in the community and always gave back.
